Welcome to the Loreto Community School’s new website. Our school is situated in Milford, Co. Donegal, having been established as a Loreto College by the Loreto Sisters in 1966. Our school became a community school in 1996 with the Loreto Sisters as joint trustees with Donegal ETB and the Bishop of Raphoe.
I hope as you browse through our website, you will gain an insight into our school and an understanding of our ethos. Our school strives to make tangible our mission statement, encompassing the rights and self-worth of all in a happy, safe and Christian environment, where all may realise their true potential. This is evident in the warm welcoming atmosphere in our school and the positive relationships that exist between students and our teaching, admin,caretaking and cleaning staff.
We have gained our reputation as a forward-thinking and progressive school by providing holistic centred education. Our state examination results reflect the school’s huge academic standard and the importance we place on teaching, learning and assessment. This, however, is not the whole story. We respond to the broad range of intelligence types and believe that beyond literacy and numeracy capabilities, there are visual, spiritual, physical, interpersonal and aesthetic talents that need to be acknowledged, nurtured and valued.
Our talented and professional staff are dedicated to the promotion of high standards and also give generously of their time to promote a wide range of extracurricular activities.
We are committed to the partnership education model where all stakeholders, trustees, Boards of Management, Parents, Guardians, Students, Staff and the local community play a central role in the overall development of the school and where the voices of all are listened to in a sport of cooperation, agreement and shared vision.
Reflecting on the school’s history and unique spirit, I realise how honoured and privileged I am to lead our school. As principal and a former student of the school, I am committed to the continuous development of this wonderful school and my wish for every student in my care is that he/she would enjoy the best holistic educational experience possible in our school and flourish in the precious five or six years that he/she spends in Loreto Community School.
